Weave Arts Centre is a not-for-profit organisation and has established itself as a cultural focal point within the Redfern and Waterloo area. Our mission is to promote public awareness, understanding and appreciation of outsider art and Indigenous Art to the wider community, through a program of education, exhibition, collecting and publishing.
We define ‘outsider art’ as work of artists who demonstrate little influence from the mainstream art world and who instead are motivated by their unique personal visions. This includes what is known as art brut, non-traditional folk art, self-taught art and visionary art.
Working in partnership with local community art centres, Mental Health Services, Dept. of Juvenile Justice, Missenden and Concord Hospital and developing digital stories with Inspire Foundation, we will endeavour to present a variety of engaging cultural and visual art exhibitions.
Our unique building formerly known as The Clothing Store is located at 231 Wilson Street alongside CarriageWorks in North Eveleigh. The light filled studio space sees more than 25 artists attend the centre each week and our public gallery space is used to showcase their art works up to 4-5 exhibitions each year.
